DEIRDRE HIGGINS

Known for her warm and luxurious tone, lyric soprano Deirdre Higgins has worked extensively with Ireland’s leading opera companies - Irish National Opera and Wexford Festival Opera. She has covered and performed roles from standard repertoire, (Mimì- Puccini’s La Bohème, Margeurite - Gounod’s Faust, Rosalinde - Strauss’s Die Fledermaus, and Giannetta - Donnizetti’s L’Elisir D’Amore) and has also debuted world premieres of contemporary pieces (Eileen O’Doherty - Alberto Caruso’s Lady Gregory in America). Her performances are noted to be “never less than captivating” (The Arts Review).

Deirdre was one of five rising Irish opera singers selected to record with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra as part of New Generation Voices. Her rendition of Dvořák’s ‘Song to the Moon’ can often be heard on RTÉ Lyric FM, Ireland’s leading classical music station. Deirdre made her concert debut with the National Symphony Orchestra Ireland as a part of their 2024 Summer Lunchtime Concert Series in the National Concert Hall, Dublin.

Deirdre’s upcoming performances feature her favourite aspects of operatic repertoire. She will explore the complexity of contemporary compositions in upcoming premieres with INO and WFO. Meanwhile, in her upcoming debut as Cio-Cio San in Madama Butterfly, she has the chance to sink into the luxury and expansiveness of Puccini’s generous composition style, which perfectly complements her full lyric tone.
